Seattle University offers a master’s level sport management degree (Master’s in Sport Administration and Leadership - MSAL) and a joint JD/MSAL degree with the Law School. We provide an education that is both immediately applicable to sport management careers through internships, assistantships, and class projects. Our curriculum is leading-edge, driven by advances in theory across a wide variety of disciplines. Our program is designed to develop business analytical thinking and effective leadership. We provide an excellent and stimulating learning experience for future leaders in the sport management field. As a university that values intellectual skills fostered by the Jesuit tradition, our programs develop exceptional leaders who are values driven and committed to sustainable business practices.
Master's/JD - Joint degree with the Law School - Campus
Most students who do the joint degree between the MSAL program and the Law School are interested in being sport agents or compliance officers in the NCAA. There are other options though, such as in-house attorneys for sport organizations. Participants in the JD/MSAL Joint Degree Program must spend their first year in the School of Law. Once the student has completed the required first year courses in the School of Law, he or she may then take courses in both the JD and MSAL programs. The length of time required to complete the joint degree program is between 3 and 4 years for full-time students.

Master's Degree - MSAL - Campus
Seattle University's MSAL program has been among the top ranked programs in the world for the last 4 years. 90% of our students have jobs within six months of graduation and 40% have jobs before they finish their degree. 80-90% of our students are doing an assistantship (up to $16,000/year), internship, or working for a sport organization every quarter, including the first quarter on campus.

Graduate Certificate in Sport Sustainability Leadership - Online

The graduate Certificate in Sport Sustainability Leadership is the first program

of its kind in the world that meets the demand for professionals who can embed

environmentally sustainable practices in sport organizations and athletic

programs of all types and sizes—amateur, professional, local, national, and

international. The 15-credit, online certificate can be completed in 9 months.

Program highlights

  • The curriculum focuses on the environmental aspects of sustainability that impact all aspects of a sport organization, including facility operations, finance, marketing, sponsorship, team operations, supply chain, and legal.
  • During the required practicum in a sport organization, students act as outside sustainability consultants, conducting research and analysis and making specific recommendations that are then presented directly to the organization.
  • Students are required to take the U.S. Green Building Council LEED Associate certification exam. LEED certification recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices.

Throughout the program, students are prepared for leadership that ensures the

success of environmental sustainability efforts in the sport industry.
