For those who are interested in professional sports, college or high school sports, working with elite amateur athletes, managing sport in community programs, working in the corporate sector, sport for development, or other settings, acquiring the proper knowledge and developing the critical skills and abilities is essential.

Our faculty members and staff are leaders in the education and development of students and the creation and dissemination of knowledge in the sport industry. We are committed to excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and service to the sport community.

Doctor of Philosophy in Sport Management - Campus

The Doctoral program includes our seminar series through which students work in-depth with content pertaining to legal and policy issues, sport management, sport marketing, and media and culture studies. Through each seminar doctoral students are immersed in both seminal and current research pertaining to the respective content areas. The seminars are designed to ground students in critical knowledge, and to foster the development of critical thinking skills.

A second component of the Doctoral program is the Research Tools. A distinguishing characteristic of the program at FSU is the breadth of training completed to become an active researcher. Through the program at FSU doctoral students learn about the philosophy of inquiry, and are engaged in such a manner that they are prepared to explain their personal philosophy of inquiry, and to converse with others holding a different philosophy. The philosophy of inquiry leads student to develop skills pertaining to the use of quantitative and/or qualitative tools.

Master of Science in Sport Management - Campus

Through the Masters program students complete courses designed to provide them with an advanced understanding of Sport Management, and the management of sport in various industry sectors. The program of study includes core courses whose content is based on legal and policy issues, sport management, sport marketing, and media and culture studies. There are also opportunities for elective course work through which students can develop a secondary specialization (e.g., athletic administration).

A critical component of the masters program is the internship experience. Practical experience is a mechanism through which students are able to apply the knowledge and skills learned and developed through participation in the program, and to begin building a professional network which is critical for gaining employment in the sport industry. Students have the opportunity to complete a part-time or full-time internship as part of the degree requirements. With an extensive network of contacts, students may find an internship opportunity literally around the world.

Bachelor of Science in Sport Management - Campus

The Bachelors program has been designed to equip students with the fundamental knowledge, skills, and abilities to work in the sport industry. A key feature of the undergraduate program is teaching students about the breadth of the sport industry, and the myriad opportunities available. The program of study includes offerings designed to provide students with knowledge, skills, and abilities pertaining to the business of sport, and how to manage sport services, whether that be in a professional sport setting, intercollegiate athletics, interscholastic athletics, community sport programs, or other amateur sport organizations. In addition to courses based on the pillar areas, students have the opportunity to complete elective work focused on the place and role of sport in society. Such training is a critical component in the preparation for pursuing a graduate degree.
